(From 2008 Vintage) The 2008 La Mission was one of the great bargains of recent vintages. Its healthy blue/purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, licorice, truffles, underbrush and forest floor. The scorched earthy/smoky character of this estate’s terroir has not yet emerged. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated with good acidity, freshness and delineation, this is a big wine for the vintage, but also very classic in its balance of tannin, acidity and extract.
(From 2006 Vintage) Typically Haut Brion has a complex bouquet of ripe fruit, tobacco and mineral, earthy scents. Rich, ripe, medium to full-bodied and well structured. A wine that seems to balance power and elegance, richness and harmony perfectly.
Decanter(From 1992 Vintage) Rating: 4/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. Dark ruby, with lovely, creamy, ripe nose of blackcurrants and oak. Sweet oak and fruit on the palate with good balance. Classy!
Robert Parker(From 2000 Vintage) "The 2000 La Mission Haut-Brion is certainly one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage. Its performance was off-the-charts in two separate tastings for this report. Deep blue/purple, with a nose of creme de cassis, floral scents, graphite, and subtle smoke, the wine is pure, deep, sumptuously textured, full-bodied, powerful (although certainly not at the power level of the amazing 2009). This wine certainly transcends its 13% natural alcohol and has the same level of concentration found i...
Decanter(From 1971 Vintage) Rating: 0/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. Deep red, some signs of maturity; lovely elegant cedary nose, intense and minty; soft, ripe, lush, sumptuous texture, light tannin, well balanced, charcoal, hint of chocolate; good length.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 1975 Vintage) I have a thing about well aged La Mission. I love the combination of dark fruit with flavors of cedar and tobacco. But on the night, this wine had more aromatics and showed aged fruit dominated by the expected notes of earth, cedar, leather and tobacco. It is well-balanced and ends in a medium to long finish, but it is also more mature than other bottles I have had. And to make matters worse, the Gemello stole its limelight, by being more Graves than the Graves itself. 93 points.
Wine Spectator(From 2001 Vintage) "Very complex, with blackberries, flowers and minerals. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fresh, sweet fruit aftertaste. Refined La Mission. Beautiful. Best after 2008. (JS)"
