Domaine de la Romanee-Conti La Tache Grand Cru Monopole Cote de Nuits

Wine Details

Wine Description

(1996 Vintage) The darkest red colour of all. On the nose, the wine is sharp, as if it were "double-locked" in its tannic coating (gangue). The "enigmatic" character of this wine finds its full expression in this wine, even if we detect some hints of liquorice typical of La Tâche. Great potential, reserved, its length and "thickness" on the palate announce interesting developments ... if you are patient enough to wait!

(2005 Vintage) Rating: 94(+?) - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 113, March/April 2004. ($430) Good full red. Superripe aromas of red fruits, minerals and earth. Highly concentrated but also quite backward today and hard to view. Very long and gripping on the back end but comes across as a bit tough today, despite conveying an impression of great flavor precision. "This was always good to taste in barrel," notes de Villaine, although I recall that it was a bit folded in on itself last November.
