(From 2000 Vintage) BV's flagship offering, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve reveals a saturated ruby/purple color along with an intriguing perfume of black currants, lead pencil shavings, loamy soil, and wood. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, and elegant, this Bordeaux-styled Cabernet finishes a bit short. The aromatics suggest a 90-point wine, and the flavors and finish something in the upper eighties. While it will not rank alongside any of the great BV Private Reserves from the fifties, sixties, seventies, or early eighties, it is a positive development for this historic estate. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.
