wine cellar: rates 86.5 avg review. wine witch review: Leese Fitch is based in Sonoma, but their grapes come from all over the place. What probably smoothed out the edges and made this wine exciting to me is that it is not 100% Cab. There is 5% each of Syrah and Tempranillo – two very yummy varietals – and a dash of Petite Syrah and a grape I have never heard of – Alicante Bouchet. The Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep ruby in the glass. There is a great deal going on in the nose – cherries, espresso, hazelnuts. This Cab is very smooth and round in the mouth, and while the tannins are there, they are under control. Of course, like most reds you taste cherries. There is also blackberries, a little burnt sugar, and some figgy pudding. Towards the end you get toasted coconut and a sparkle of acidity. Whew! A lot going on for $10, an affordable everyday red, that wouldn't be out of place at a special occasion.

The nose at first was a little spicy with a whiff or two hinting at rubber, which rapidly disappeared. One of the men remarked on smoke and black cherry as well. Its first impression gave way to what I could only describe as raspberry brittle, and we all agreed on vanilla, milk chocolate, and caramel. Taste: molasses, toasted oak, red raspberry, black cherry, and dark chocolate took over. Had very soft tannins and not much perceived acidity. It was smooth, round, and well-balanced, with a lovely silky mouthfeel that expanded into a lingering yet gentle finish.
