  • Background
The Vineyard J Vineyards Viognier is crafted entirely of 100% Viognier grapes harvested from the famed Hoot Owl Vineyard in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. Vineyard owners Russ and B.J. Green, have been close friends of J Vineyards founder and president, Judy Jordan, for many years. Winemaking Whole grape clusters were hand-harvested and gently pressed in J’s Coquard press. This French press gently minimizes the extraction of harsh seed and skin flavors. Aging The free-run juice was kept separate from the press during fermentation. A mix of yeasts was used to coax a variety of flavors from the aromatic juice. All of the juice was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh bouquet of unique varietal wine. Tasting Notes The 2009 J Vineyards Viognier features a very subtle gardenia and orange blossom fragrance on the nose. This seductive, layered wine exhibits a creamy peach, honey and vanilla flavor on the palate. This luxurious Viognier is the perfect “bridge” wine for salads featuring multiple greens. The key is to not drench the greens with heavy dressings. Fresh, crisp, and clean are the watchwords for food pairings with Viognier. Subtle and elegant, with a silky texture accented by pear, custard, apricot, mineral and floral notes. Impressive for its restraint and details, showing enough acidity to keep everything fresh. Drink now. 500 cases made. –MW
