This 90 hectare estate in the heart of Southern Rhone was founded by Andr Brusset in 1947. The domaine, based in the ancient village of Cairanne, is now run by his son Daniel, and grandson Laurent, who was a winemaker. Yields are well below that required by law, and the fruit is of the highest quality. Vinification is traditional, with a small proportion of the harvest undergoing whole bunch fermentation in order to retain the fruitiness of the grapes. The wine is 100% hand picked from the domaines own vineyards. All the grapes are destalked before fermentation which lasts 8 - 10 days at a constant temperature of 28 degrees C. Each grape variety is harvested and vinified separately and then blended together after malolactic fermentation. 80% of the wine is then aged in steel while the remaining 20 is aged in large oak barrels for 6 months. A blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Carignan. Ruby red in colour with enticing aromas of red berry fruits. The palate is round, with subtle flavours of raspberries and other red fruits. The wine is well balanced and the tannins smooth and approachable.
