2009 Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
|Vineyard:||Chalk Hill Winery|
After hand-harvesting, hand sorting, and whole cluster pressing, the juice was barrel fermented with 100% native yeast. This was followed by a slow malolactic fermentation and weekly bâtonnage. The wine spent 13 months in French oak barrels (35% new) and was bottled without filtration to preserve aromatics and texture.
International Wine Cellar"Hazy, Green-Tinged Gold. Musky, lees-accented aromas of apple, melon and cinnamon, with a suggestion of buttered toast. Supple and expansive, offering deeply pitched flavors of baked apple and guava and a hint of candied ginger. For all of this Chardonnay's exotic qualities, it shows very good energy and focus, and finishes spicy and long."
Wine Enthusiast“KUDOS TO CHALK HILL for one of the drier, more subtle Chardonnays on the market. They've controlled the ripeness, reining in the tropical fruits to retain minerality, and allowing acidity to provide crispness. Nonetheless the wine impresses for opulence and complexity.” - Steve Heimoff
DescriptionOur 2009 Chardonnay is rich, concentrated and structured. The aromas and flavors feature white peach, golden delicious apples, vanilla and crème brûlée. The palate is rich and concentrated with spice and toasted oak while fine natural acidity keeps the wine in balance.
Wine Spectator“RICH AND COMPLEX, WITH SPICY MELON, honeysuckle, fig, apricot and nutmeg flavors. Full-bodied, retaining its focus on the long, smoky, full-bodied finish. Drink now through 2015.”
