Winemaker's Notes: Our 2008 Three Saints Chardonnay is characterized by its rich, fleshy fig notes and a persistent lemon oil flavor. Delicate spring blossom aromas are balanced by weight and gravitas from extended lees ageing. Flavors run the gamut from ruby grapefruit, lemon zest and meringue to Meursault-like oatmeal nuances. Featuring a bright, precise but richly textured mouthfeel, the 2008 Three Saints Chardonnay drinks deliciously. Food & Wine: Medium-bodied white. The cool, sun-filled days of California’s Santa Maria Valley turn out vibrant whites, like this rich Chardonnay. A respected winemaking family, the Dierbergs produce acclaimed Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays under the Dierberg label, and terrific Cabernets under the name Star Lane; their Three Saints wines are more affordable but no less impressive. This poised, lushly flavorful white comes from a vineyard planted on sloping hillsides of sandy loam soil in the Santa Maria Valley, where Chardonnay thrives on the mix of bright California sun and cold Pacific air. SMELL IT:Ripe pear, orange and spiced vanilla scents. TASTE IT: Rich and full with tight acidity. SERVE IT: Serve well chilled. PAIR IT: Serve as an aperitif or with rich seafood or poultry.
