WINEMAKER'S NOTE
Aroma: A delicious mélange of dark black berries, dark-roast espresso and hints of anisette opens up to reveal underlying warm mineral notes, cassis, violets and spice.
Flavors: Signature black and red fruit flows freely across the palate, entwined with more espresso, dark chocolate, and touches of violet and licorice. A warm mineral component echoes the wine’s foothills heritage.
Finish: Firm, supple tannins along the base of the wine keep the luscious fruit aloft through a generous finish, bolstered by crisp acidity.
General: A dense, racy and balanced Cabernet Sauvignon that is the perfect match for a ribeye.

DescriptionAroma: A heady perfume of deep black plum, currant, cocoa and cassis, enlivened by Bordeaux-style notes of graphite, tobacco and cedar. Flavors: A formidable entry of Mt. Veeder black fruit, sweet cassis, currant and cocoa powder flows across the palate, underlain with pencil lead, lively mineral notes, and a hint of burning embers. Finish: A huge, persistent core of deep black cherry and berry powers through the finish, bolstered by fine-grained mountain tannins and enlivened by bracing acidity. General: Full-bodied and tightly wound, this age-worthy mountain Cabernet is built for 20+ years of enjoyment. Decanting recommended.

BackgroundWhen Robert Craig first came to Napa Valley in the late 1970’s, he headed to Mt. Veeder in the southwestern Mayacamas range. There he spent the next 12 years learning about mountain vineyards and came to regard Mt. Veeder one of the premiere Appellations for world-class Cabernet Sauvignons. His first Mt. Veeder Cabernet was made in 1993. Fifteen vintages later, the 2008 offering is a classic mountain Cabernet, brimming with deep black fruit and balanced by round, supple tannins and bright acidity that offer the structure for long-term aging.

batmankrgThe Robert Craig Wine Cellars proprietary label, Affinity, is their Bordeaux-style Cabernet Sauvignon blend, which features Cabernet grapes from the winery's estate vineyard located in the eastern foothills of Napa Valley, within the Combsville area. The cooler growing conditions and well-drained soils of this vineyard produce a wonderfully distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon which is the perfect counterpoint to grapes from Rutherford, Oakville and Carneros which are used in the blend. From Robert Parker: "Robert Craig's 2008 Affinity, which is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, and the rest Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, has a dark plum/ruby color, a very evolved and forward nose of spice box, cedar, black plums, and sweet cherries. It is medium-bodied, elegant, and ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years." (Dec. 2010)

trmikiethe bottle we drank had leakage on the top of the cork. Need to talk to dan and see how his bottle was. The bottle was very good, I think it does need to be decanted. As the flavors changed quite a bit as the bottle was open
