Though it's the underdog of Rhone grapes compared with the press that Syrah/Shiraz and Grenache/Garnacha get, Mourvedre (a.k.a. Monastrell) is no weakling - and the Castaño Yecla proves it! Bright cherry red, with dense, textured, cherry flavors on the palate. A great match to simple, bistro-style fare but has enough body to hold up to hearty dishes including beef, game, and strong cheeses. Yummy!

monastrell 13.5% alch, nice but may need a little time. Green tannins and a little bite to the finish. 10 bucks.
