WINEMAKER'S NOTE
This property was bought and established by Silvia Fertonani and her husband Mario Calzolari. With the 1999 vintage, the rising star of Poggio San Polo established itself brightly in Montalcino’s firmament and this was confirmed with the double Gold Medal for the estate at the 2004 International Wine Challenge (1999 Brunello and 2001 Mezzo Pane). In addition, the 1999 Brunello won the Sangiovese trophy. Following a rift in the family, the estate was put up for sale and bought by Marilisa Allegrini of Verona in 2006. She is planning to invest heavily in the wines and has brought in winemaker read more...Nicolo Biasi to build on the already impressive levels of quality. The wine is deep ruby-red in colour, with ripe, attractive perfumes of blackberries and cherries with a hint of spiced plums. Good depth on the palate with ripe fruit and gentle tannins. It combines good structure with an attractive youthful freshness. (hide)
