Mystery Wine #21 Dear Friends, Mystery Wine #21 is upon us and the price is so low that I'm basically not allowed to say anything about the wine... ...which brings us to Mystery Wine #21. As I stated above, I am under wraps here – the winery will not allow any information to be revealed on the offer but I’ve managed to side-step that request with the following basic facts: • Mystery Wine #21 is from an established Washington winery with a very interesting (i.e. high scoring) pedigree. • They never discount their wines (they don't need to). • I’ve been quietly nudging them for over a year now – at first they laughed in my face but it pays to be persistent. • Today’s Mystery Wine price is the lowest ever offered on this wine (I confirmed that with the winery this morning). • This is a universally praised example – it received at least 92 or 93pts from all three of the major US critics – that is a rarity (in many cases Tanzer fails to be swayed by the same wines as the WA or WS, not so here). • It is a Bordeaux blend (heavy on the Cabernet Sauvignon) with a touch of “other”. • Alcohol is in the 14.0-14.5% range (not 15.0-16.0+% as has become the norm of late in many domestic circles) • I toured five local “discount” wine shops yesterday and it’s priced between {$45-50+} (it’s even higher once you venture outside of Seattle - {$55-65+}) • This wine has real elegance, grace and power but it’s still a Washington State wine – if your benchmark is 1970 Montrose and you think all domestic wines are evil, stay away (maybe that will keep some of you away as the quantity we have on this is the smallest of any of the Mystery Wines thus far). • I can’t tell you the vintage (sorry) • I can’t tell you the appellation (Walla Walla, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain, etc) • This wine is the exact same wine/label as what sits on store shelves as I type this. That’s about all I can say except this is probably the most noble and age-worthy Washington State Mystery Wine we’ve yet offered – it’s in a different class which will be more than apparent when you receive your shipping boxes this fall (or when you pick up)...
