Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines87% Zinfandel; 13% Petite Sirah. Persistent elements of well-ripened berries keep this solid effort on the varietal track while accents of caramel, vanilla and pencil-lead spice lend a twist of complexity throughout. Well-balanced, moderately full-bodied and fairly supple in feel, it is a big wine that is driven more by fruit than by ripeness, and, if fairly complete at the moment, it has a good chance of aging into better if allowed another three or four years in the cellar.
