Wine & SpiritsRating: 92/100 - As reviewed by Wine & Spirits Magazine on 10/09. Pure McLaren funk: You can smell the soil in this wine, and you can taste it as well. That intriguing earthiness underscores the bold red fruit, almost vermilion in brightness when first poured, darkening to anise and pomegranate with air. The tannins are youthfully tough, needing a few years of bottle age to resolve. Named for Joseph Osborn's favorite racehorse, this wine is made from old-vine shiraz, foot-trod and basket pressed before finishing its fermentation in barrel.
