WINEMAKER'S NOTE
A classy, concentrated Margaux, this wine shows elegant, ripe cassis flavors with notes of cedar, tobacco and restrained vanillin oak set in a silky, highly extracted texture underscored by refined, focused tannins.

International Wine CellarFull red-ruby. Musky aromas of currant, graphite, tobacco leaf, menthol, herbs and smoke are sexed up by a captivating candied quality. Densely packed and chewy but suave, with good peppery, herbal lift to the very ripe dark berry and mineral flavors. Not the ripest vintage ever for this wine, but that's not a bad thing as there's real energy to go with the broad texture.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines50% Cabernet Sauvignon; 35% Merlot; 10% Cabernet Franc; 5% Petit Verdot. If not quite Californian in its display of plums, currants and cherries fruitiness, this bottling nonetheless conveys a bit more ripeness and immediate fruit than the 2006 norm, and it similarly shows a fine sense of flesh on the palate. It fights with stiffening tannins in the latter going, but never wholly lets go of its fruit, and it warrants at least five or six years of age.
