A powerhouse blend of cabernet franc and merlot, from Ben and Gaye Smith's vineyard on Red Mountain (planted in 2004), this is precocious in its youth, with rich notes of plum, violet and star anise. It's all sweet heat on the palate, that rich plum meeting lavender and a dark, woodsy bottom note. Like most Red Mountain reds, this will need time; then decant and serve with skirt steak off the grill.
