Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines20% Petite Sirah; 4% Syrah. As this nicely made effort so aptly demonstrates, ripeness is no liability when it is balanced by fruit and not allowed to dictate terms. Heat is held in abeyance, and the wine is both gutsy and well-structured with acid and tannin working together. If not particularly complex, it is nicely focused and will hold up well with age.
