Merlot may not be the culprit, and there is certainly a rush of varietal tannins to be found in its finish, but this unfocused wine smacks of berries and it neither feels nor tastes quite like Cabernet Sauvignon. Acid peeks out in mid-palate and serves to boost chalky tannins to prominence in the finish.
