A surprising lack of fruit leaves this wine to the mercies of oak and toothpicky phenolics, and there is no way back to pleasure or acceptability in its construction. It matters not that it is ripe, has a certain supple, almost silky entry and is possessed of fairly reasonable focus in what lesser fruit manages to emerge. Look elsewhere for your Merlot.
