This Gallo product has generally had good results with red wines, but this edition of its Syrah is of mixed quality. Its aromas are on the blocky, ripe side and come up a touch or two short in vitality and potential despite enough blackberry fruit and peppery spice for full varietal marks. The palatal impacts are predictably a little less than dramatic, and the absence of full fruit at its heart lifts a fair bit of tannin into view at the end.
