  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
Ripe cherry and slightly curranty aromas are joined with leathery and barky notes in the first nose of this wine, and airing brings woodsy and caramelly scents. Somewhat open, almost fleshy in feel at entry, the wine toughens up and dries a bit as its wood and leather take over from mid-palate to finish. It is not without plenty of character, and there will be those who call it complex, but others will find it less friendly than they would like.
