Give Benziger its due here. Even though the wine falls a bit short of full commendation, it is crafted to be on the light and easy to drink side. Its red cherry fruit aromas and light touches of caramel and plum jam are followed on the palate by a brightly balanced, somewhat firm wine whose fruit is ever so slightly but noticeably constricted by latter palate acids. Still, this one could be a willing mate to veal or other lighter meats.

Our 2005 Sonoma County Merlot has flavors of red cherry, plum, blueberry, pepper and toast. Well integrated tannins give the wine a soft, textured mouthfeel and lingering finish.
