Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines19% Cabernet Sauvignon; 4% Petit Verdot. Despite the wine's famous site, it is surprisingly on the dry side for Merlot, and the ripe cherry and cassis notes that do show up in nose and flavor are required to fight through fairly tough tannins. It will likely age into a smoother, more open effort with time, and the vineyard's past performance both with Sterling and with Duckhorn provide reasons for optimism.
