From a venerable producer, a fine Merlot. It’s soft and gentle in tannins and acids, but that doesn’t detract from complex interest. The flavors veer toward black cherries, with a chocolatey edge. It is packed with plum and black cherry flavors with exotic spiceand vanilla oak elements. This wine was barrel fermented, and matured in French and American oak barrels. Alcohol: 13.5%      

We know from the winery's success with other varieties that it can get more from its grapes than a thin and hollowly cherryish bottling with green edges and very little of the variety's enticing aspects. It is not flawed so much as underfilled, and it is part of the pattern that gives Merlot a bad name.
