WINEMAKER'S NOTE
Seghesio Zinfandel Home Ranch Alexander Valley 2004

Rating: 92 Pts. Robert Parker
Review: Kirsch liqueur, raspberries, and a personality reminiscent of a Rayas Chateauneuf du Pape are found in the 2004 Zinfandel Home Ranch (a 2,400-case blend of 94% Zinfandel and 6% Petite Sirah and Carignane). From a vineyard planted in 1895, it boasts a dark ruby color as well as savory notes of raspberries, cherries, minerals, and flowers. Ripe, fruity, deep, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully etched, it will drink well for 4-6 years.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesFrom its very intense of aromas of blackberries, briar and spice to its rich and distinctly fruity flavors, this dense and big-bodied Zinfandel conveys richness and substance to spare while never once losing its varietal bearings. It is presently a bit tough at the finish, and it does not impress as a wine that will in time achieve real elegance, but its power and sheer fruity depth are the stuff of success. Drink it now, if you will, but expect four or five years of very positive growth.
