100% Syrah. From the beginning, Scrio had a special place in the heart of Eugenio Campolmi, a great lover of the Syrahs of the Northern Rhone. "Le Macchiole's 2004 Scrio (Syrah) is a wild, exotic wine that flows from the glass with a compelling array of earthiness, mint, dark fruit, herbs, espresso and toasted oak. This sweet, layered wine possesses superb clarity and detail with an incredible lightness on the palate that is achieved notwithstanding its density. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020."

Dark red. Smoky aromas of grilled bacon, minerals and plum greet the taster, but come off as a bit unrefined at present. Smooth and suave on entry, then lush in the middle, showing plenty of ripe black fruits and an immensely sweet, appealing mouth feel. Finishes with soft if somewhat chunky tannins. Needs time to come around and gain more definition.
