WINEMAKER'S NOTE
This 2.2 hectare estate is situated in the Tavernelle area of Montalcino. Owned by Sergio Marchetti, whose family has been there since the 1700’s, the wines are now made by his son in law, Adriano Bambacioni. Adriano is the cellar master at Argiano, where he worked with Giacomo Tachis for 10 years. Fossacolle made its impressive debut with the 1997 Brunello. The vineyards are located at 300m above sea level and are south facing. Soils here are firm, tending to clay. The vines are 12 years old on average, spur cordon trained with about 4,000 plants per hectare. They yield approximately 70 quintals read more...per hectare or 54 hI/ha. The Brunello has wonderful power allied to voluptuous, chocolately fruit and supple tannins. It is well balanced, and has good body and long length. (hide)
