Situated on the gravel plateau across the road from Cheval Blanc, this famous estate has often underperformed over the last decade, so it is ironic that in a year when so few Right Bank estates made great wines Figeac has produced a real stunner. This fruit-driven Claret, made from 40% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc, has great subtlety and real sense of terroir as well as sumptuous wild strawberry fruit with beautifully-integrated cream and vanilla oak. This has an exceptionally long finish and clearly a great future ahead of it. A real revelation. Drink 2009-2015.
