The 2001 vintage benefited from excellent weather conditions and terrific, ripe fruit. The result is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with a brilliant red hue and a rich, berry nose. This vintage has strong, round tannins with an elegant body and vibrant flavors of blackberry and cassis. The family's vineyards are divided into five blocks that follow the depth and stoniness of the soil, which are further divided into upper, middle and lower rows. "Lilting mint and sage leaf aromas are followed by a very supple palate of black cherry, black currant, tobacco and cedar, all underscored by a dark, loamy finish. In the old style, but ripe, concentrated and balanced. Drink now through 2010. 1,000 cases made."
