Stephen Tanzer's International Wine CellarSaturated ruby-red. Rather Rhone-like aromas of currant, chocolate and fruitcake. Sweet on entry, then turns a bit dry in the middle under a heavy load of oak. Flavors of dried fruits, tar and coffee grounds, along with a hint of band-aid. The finish features a lot of drying oak tannins.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines10% Merlot; 8% Cabernet Franc; 4% Malbec; 2% Petit Verdot. Even with the fairly attractive first fruit notes and complex array of characteristics on display here, this wine is surprisingly short on real depth and density in both nose and mouth. Its curt tannins lend structure while adding to the slight dryness that emerges as the wine finishes.
