WINEMAKER'S NOTE
The colour is an intense glossy garnet, with orange reflections. The bouquet is ethereal, with hints of violets, blackberry jam, licorice and cloves. The palate is dry and austere, with a lingering hint of almonds.

Antonio GalloniRating: 93/100 - As reviewed by Piedmont Report in Issue 3 and 4, July 2005 Dark ruby. The 2000 Barolo shows a classic and austere personality, with a deep, balsamic nose of spices, stewed fruits and menthol. It is dense and structured, with flavors of very ripe dark fruit, prunes and plums on a broad ample frame with significant tannins. Pio Cesare's Barolo remains the house's signature wine and displays impressive quality considering its production of over 80,000 bottles...

International Wine Cellar($72) Full, deep red. Vibrant aromas of raspberry, smoke and underbrush; as with the 2001s, this comes across as more primary than the Barbaresco. Fat, dense and backward, with a layered texture and superb acidity for the vintage. Not at all a jammy style of 2000; in fact, this seems distinctly cool and aristocratic. The huge, rising finish features big, ripe tannins and powerful, brooding fruit.
