International Wine CellarRating: 91/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 108, May/June 2003 ($70-$95) Perfumed, classy aromas of dark berries, spices, licorice and bitter chocolate; a real essence of Margaux. Rich but sappy, with cassis, blackberry, boysenberry and dark chocolate flavors nicely firmed by ripe acidity. Finishes long and firmly tannic, with excellent spine and grip. By far the highest of these three vintages in tannins.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines2eme Cru Classe. Long on sweet oak enrichment and fairly forthright in plump, optimally ripened fruit, this full and fleshy wine is among the more accessible of the bunch. An absolutely delicious wine whose broad, nicely layered flavors suggest black cherries, currants, cocoa, cream and vanilla, it is far from soft in balance, but it so very open and inviting now that many of our panel wondered aloud that it might well hail from Napa Valley.
