WINEMAKER'S NOTE
Notes on the Dunn Vineyards Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 93 Pts W. S. : WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: 93 POINTS Dark and intense, with a tight, compact, tightly wound band of earth, anise, leather, game meat, currant and blackberry, revealing layers of complexity and concentration before the tannins and cedary oak clamp down. Best from 2005 through 2014. 2,000 cases made. November 15, 2002 JLWINE ADVOCATE REVIEW: 90-93 POINTS Dunn's normal policy is to select the Napa Cabernet Sauvignon from his barrels right before bottling. Hence what I tasted was a trial blend of this wine. This read more...year produced extremely small crops characterized by extremely cool growing seasons as well as unusually late harvests. Dunn dropped 30% of the crop in order to guarantee ripeness in his vineyard. There is no astringent tannin or vegetal characteristic to be found in this full-bodied, powerful Cabernet Sauvignon. International Wine CellarRating: 90/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 105, November/December 2002 ($55) Bright ruby-red. Wild aromas of blackberry, black cherry, espresso, leather, raw meat, tobacco and mint. Juicy, sweet and plump, with intense but rather rustic flavors. Finishes with lingering sweet fruit and surprisingly ripe tannins. Not squeaky-clean but long on personality.
