Like its siblings, the Heitz Napa Valley bottling is 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. In earlier vintages it has been blended from grapes purchased from two or more vineyards. Heitz Cellars receives the entire production from the famed vineyard in Oakville for its limited edition of vineyard designated Cabernet Sauvignon. To add to its overall complexities, the 100 percent varietal Cabernet is aged for a year in American oak tanks and two and a half years in French limousin oak barrels. Traditionally the wine is released in the fifth year after harvest in small quantities over a five-year marketing period to ensure a fair allocation of this exceptional wine from the Napa Valley. DescriptionThe wine is wonderful, with an appealing aroma of ripe, juicy, boysenberries and plums. There is also a subtle note of spice and oak that adds extra intrigue. Overall this is deftly balanced 100% varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, from a cross section of Heitz Wine Cellars vineyards. The end result is a harmonious complex Cabernet that is polished and pleasing.
