The grapes for Chateau Souverain's Winemaker's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon are grown on the hillsides and benchlands of Alexander Valley. These vineyards are noted for their gravelly, low-energy soil, which produces rich, concentrated flavors and colors. We chose Stuhlmuller, Chambers & Hansen and our own estate vineyards as the sources for this vintage.   • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
    Alexander Valley. Toasty, charry notes and smells of burnt herbs give this wine a rather difficult beginning, and its mid-density fruit in the mouth runs into chalky tannins and intrusive bitter-ness as the wine crosses the palate. Bottle age might soften the wine but cannot save it.
