1997 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet
The name of this site represents an ancient custom of attaching the owners name to a noun: the champ (field) of a Monsieur Canet. Situated on the Puligny side of Meursault 1er Cru Perrières, the soil is calcareous and very pebbly. The vines are forced to grow deep roots in order to find water. The wine is usually rounder and fatter with hints of hazelnuts and is slow to express itself.
Vintage ChartRating for France-Burgundy: 89 (slightly better than average year)

Drinkability: quite possibly over the hill
