Very good deep red. Sappy red berries, game and nutty oak on the nose; less expressive than the '96 today. Silky and deep, with good acidity providing solid backbone. Doesn't show quite the charm of the '96 today, but this very firm wine really builds in the mouth. Finishes strong and long, with lush, toothcoating tannins.
