1985: 60% Cabernet, 40% Merlot, 100% new oak;
Beautiful aromas and a great mellowness on the palate; a very impressive vintage which was delicious very early and should develop over the long term without losing its round, ripe character; superb quality maturing in 20 years or more.

International Wine CellarRed-ruby color, not quite as saturated as the '96. More roasted and less minerally than the '96: notes of black fruit, game, and toasty oak. Tightly wrapped and rather taut today, but offers terrific concentration and length. Today the wine tannins are very visible, and perhaps not quite as sweet as those of the '96, and firm acids are not yet in complete harmony with the wine. But this will be superb with six to eight years of bottle aging.
