Never one of our favorites from this venerable producer, and not much favored in this tasting either, Beaulieu's flagship effort in 1984 has matured long before its time and now smells of old cigars and cedar with but the barest hints of richness and fruit. Its supple texture is all one would expect of an aged Cabernet, but its flavors follow the pathway of decrepitude so accurately presaged by the aroma.
